Imagine a technology that puts students in the driver’s seat of their own learning experience. Within the classroom they create and share content with their peers. They engage in multimedia and interactive learning, broadening the way they look at problems and solutions. They engage in a new model of education.

Now imagine putting that technology in the hands of underprivileged students in developing countries.

Blackboard and Stanford University have partnered to test mobile learning solutions in remote areas around the globe. Project Activate combines Blackboard’s Mobile Learn technology with specialized smart devices designed to be portable, durable, and reliable in areas without power or Internet access.

In rural areas where children have little access to books, let alone a computer, Mobile Learn uses video, music, and intuitive gaming to inspire students. They create math problems for their friends to solve and submit online. They translate native song lyrics to English, then make a music video for their friends. They grow and learn with exciting, engaging content in an interactive environment.

Project Activate embodies Blackboard’s mission to create a better education experience. From the students—who share and grow in their learning experience, to our employees—who have an opportunity to give back within the education sector. We’re creating stories of improvement across the globe.
